“We’re Pointing People to God”: Jon Reddick’s No. 1 Hit Forged in Wife’s Cancer Battle

Jon Reddick’s latest No. 1 hit wasn’t born in a songwriting session or dreamed up in a recording studio—it emerged from a real-life battle as his wife fought cancer and he clung to the promises of God, just as the song describes. “Holding On (Praise God)” is No. 1 across four Christian radio charts—including Billboard and Mediabase—and is a deeply personal anthem about facing life’s battles through prayer and trusting that God is holding on to us even when life seems uncertain. Reddick’s wife, Rebecca, was diagnosed with early-onset colon cancer, launching the couple into a frightening season of uncertainty. She subsequently underwent successful surgery, and a pathology report cleared her of cancer. At the time, another song by Reddick, “No Fear,” was climbing the charts and eventually hit No. 1.

The song’s meteoric rise is a testament to its raw authenticity and the universal truth it carries: that even in our darkest moments, God is faithful. “We’re pointing people to God,” Reddick has said of the song’s purpose, and that mission has resonated deeply with listeners across the country. Co-written by Reddick, Matthew West, and Jeff Pardo and produced by Pardo, “Holding On (Praise God)” has garnered nearly 11 million streams in less than five months. The song’s success adds to an already significant season for Reddick, who has amassed nearly 900 million lifetime streams across his career and whose catalog includes two RIAA Gold-certified singles. For Reddick, the song is more than a chart-topping hit—it is a testimony of God’s faithfulness through the fire, a reminder that when we hold on to Him, He holds on to us. As the song continues to touch hearts and climb the charts, its message remains clear: praise God in the storm, because He is faithful.
