‘Pray for Minnesota’: 3 Dead, Including Suspected Gunman, and 3 Officers Wounded in Minneapolis Shooting
A violent shooting in downtown Minneapolis on Wednesday afternoon left three people dead—including the suspected gunman—and four others injured, with three police officers among the wounded, officials said. Minneapolis Police Department Sgt. Garrett Parten confirmed the deaths at a news conference, though it remains unclear how the suspected gunman died. Seven patients were transported to Hennepin Healthcare Medical Center, where three underwent surgery for gunshot wounds. Officers were reportedly shot in the shin and abdomen, sources told Fox News. The shooting triggered a massive law enforcement response, with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and FBI offering support to local authorities.
Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz took to X, writing, “My public safety team is responding to a shooting that took place downtown Minneapolis this afternoon. State officials are on the ground to support local law enforcement, and we will share more information as it becomes available.” He later added, “Minnesota is praying for our first responders.” The Minnesota Fraternal Order of Police acknowledged the injured officers, posting, “Two Minneapolis officers were shot today answering the call downtown. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved — the wounded, their families, and the officers still holding the line tonight.” The City of Minneapolis confirmed the area is now secure and that there is no further threat to the public, though the shooting has shaken the community and prompted an outpouring of prayers and support for the victims and their families.
