Country music legend Dolly Parton has died at the age of 80 following a brief battle with cancer, her family announced Tuesday. The iconic singer, songwriter, and philanthropist passed away peacefully at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville, surrounded by loved ones. Her nephew, Bryan Seaver, shared the news in a video message, revealing that Parton had wanted him to make the announcement when the time came. “Sadness lies with us, not with Dolly. Dolly has lived in the light and is in the arms of Jesus,” Seaver said. He added that she was “surely met by Carl, her parents, and countless others who have watched her and longed for her to meet them in the heavens.” Her husband of nearly 60 years, Carl Dean, died in March 2025. Parton had been open about her Christian faith throughout her life, saying in a 2017 interview, “My faith has always been so important to me… I pray every day. I pray about everything.”

The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum praised Parton’s legacy, with CEO Kyle Young stating, “Dolly Parton’s legacy is not celebrity, but humanity… She shared her fortunes for the good of all of us, and shared her soul in every note she sang.” Parton’s family will hold a private funeral, and she will be remembered for her timeless music, her unwavering faith, and the love she poured into the world.
