Strait to Peace: Trump Suspends Iran Strikes for Two Weeks After Pakistani Intervention, Demands Hormuz Opening

In a stunning last-minute diplomatic pivot, President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that he will delay the planned “bombing and attack of Iran” for two weeks, following urgent appeals from Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir. The president had previously threatened to unleash military force at 8 p.m. Eastern time unless a deal was reached. Instead, Trump took to Truth Social to declare a “double sided CEASEFIRE,” contingent upon Iran’s “COMPLETE, IMMEDIATE, and SAFE OPENING of the Strait of Hormuz.” The strategic waterway, through which nearly one-fifth of global oil passes, has been a flashpoint in escalating tensions. Trump revealed that Iran had submitted a 10-point proposal, which his administration believes provides “a workable basis on which to negotiate,” adding that “almost all of the various points of past contention have been agreed to.” The president framed the pause not as retreat but as victory, stating, “We have already met and exceeded all Military objectives.”
