A Song of Survival: Rachel Purcell’s “Keep Going” EP Chronicles Healing After a Near-Fatal Miscarriage
Muscle Shoals native Rachel Purcell has released her Keep Going EP via Centricity Music, a soulful collection of songs that channels the old-school sound of her Alabama hometown while sharing a deeply personal story of healing and resilience. The EP follows a devastating miscarriage and medical emergency that nearly took Purcell’s life, a trauma that sent her on a journey of physical and emotional recovery. Holding on to her faith and finding support through therapy and community, Purcell began to rebuild her strength—even training for and completing a 10K run, which inspired the upbeat title track. “When I think of the past two years of my life, the message to myself was always ‘Keep Going’,” Purcell remembers. “In this day and age, the world can feel really lonely, but this body of work says, ‘You’re not alone.’ My prayer is that these songs will meet you right where you’re at and lift you up.”
The EP also features the standout track “You Love Me The Best,” a collaboration with Blessing Offor that was born from an impromptu writing session. Purcell, who grew up just minutes from FAME Studios, draws from her deep musical roots, citing influences like Gladys Knight, Otis Redding, and Aretha Franklin, as well as newer artists like RAYE. “I’m a sucker for horns and doo-wop background vocals! We were finally able to bring this style to Christian music,” she shares. The EP’s opener, “(Can’t) Trust You,” declares God’s trustworthiness amidst swelling strings and shimmering piano, while the powerful finale, “Who I Belong To,” serves as a testimony of faith: “I belong to a perfect father who tells me that I’m not alone. I belong to a risen Savior whose love will never let me go.” With Keep Going, Rachel Purcell offers a message of hope and perseverance to anyone navigating their own season of hardship.
