The fiberglass monument, erected at the newly-dubbed “Papal Oval” roundabout, is more than just a piece of public art; it is the centerpiece of a newly launched tourist pilgrimage route, the “Paths of Pope Leo XIV.” This initiative is designed to honor the pontiff’s deep and enduring ties to Peru, where he lived and served for nearly four decades before his ascent to the papacy, including a formative period as the Bishop of Chiclayo starting in 2014.
