Cutting Ties: House Freedom Caucus Demands Vote on $9.4 Billion Spending Cut Proposal

67views

The House Freedom Caucus is calling for a swift vote on the White House’s impending $9.4 billion federal spending cut proposal, expected to be submitted to Congress on Tuesday. Led by Chairman Andy Harris, R-Md., the conservative group is pushing for immediate action, urging the House to advance the rescissions package to the floor for passage the same week it’s received. The proposal aims to claw back government funding for NPR, PBS, and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), citing liberal bias and wasteful foreign aid dollars.

The House Freedom Caucus strongly supports these critical rescissions and plans to back additional packages sent by the White House in the coming weeks and months. According to the group’s position, passing this rescissions package will demonstrate Congress’ willingness to deliver on Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) spending cuts and the Trump agenda. GOP officials have made it clear that this is just the first of several proposals that could come from the White House, with National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett confirming further rescissions packages are on the horizon.

Republican leaders, including House Speaker Mike Johnson and Republican Study Committee Chairman August Pfluger, are also pushing for swift action, highlighting the need for fairness and accountability in taxpayer funding. With a possible vote as early as Friday, the House Freedom Caucus and other GOP groups are working to ensure the proposal is passed quickly and sent to the Senate for approval, aligning with President Trump’s agenda and goals for fiscal restraint.
