According to Anti-Terror Special Detachment 88 Spokesperson Aswin Siregar, H.O.K. was an online member of the Philippines-based Dawlah Islamiyah, affiliated with the Islamic State (ISIS). The suspect had planned to carry out the attacks using Triaceton Triperoxide (TATP) explosives, a powerful and dangerous substance known as the “Mother of Satan.” Preliminary investigations revealed that H.O.K. had accessed various websites and social media platforms containing extremist propaganda, leading him to attempt the suicide bombings.

The arrest of H.O.K. and his parents highlights the growing concern of online radicalization and the influence of extremist groups on young individuals. Authorities are still investigating possible links to other ISIS support networks, with several others detained for questioning. The operation demonstrates the commitment of Indonesian authorities to preventing terrorist attacks and ensuring the safety of all citizens, regardless of their religious beliefs.

Indonesia, the world’s largest Muslim-majority country, has faced challenges in maintaining religious harmony, with Christians facing persecution and discrimination. The foiled plot serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing threats posed by Islamic extremist groups, underscoring the need for continued vigilance and cooperation between law enforcement agencies and communities to prevent such attacks.

Fact Check: Muslims account for 83.3% of Indonesia’s population, while 11.43% identify as Christian, with the Evangelical population estimated at 3.23%, according to the Joshua Project.
