“Trump: ‘They Spy On Us, We Spy On Them’ After Report Links China Imagery To Deadly Iran Strike”

President Donald Trump brushed off claims of Chinese espionage on Sunday, telling reporters aboard Air Force One that Beijing “does what we do” after a Wall Street Journal report alleged Chinese entities supplied Iran with high-resolution satellite imagery ahead of a deadly missile attack. The report ties that imagery to Iran’s July 17 strike on Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan, which killed three U.S. troops. U.S. officials described the link as the clearest evidence yet that support from Chinese entities for Iran during the war had fatal consequences for American forces, though they did not identify the specific entities or accuse Beijing of direct involvement in the attack.

When asked if he would raise the issue with Chinese President Xi Jinping during Xi’s scheduled Sept. 24 visit to Washington, Trump said Xi has “behaved reasonably well” and that the U.S. operates the same way. “You know what they say? That China spies on us. I say you’re right, and we spy on them, too,” Trump said. The comments came as the White House faces new pressure over Iran and as Trump predicted the conflict would end after the 2026 midterms. The White House did not immediately comment, and the administration has not yet detailed any response to the allegations ahead of the high-stakes summit.
