From Twisted Scripture to the Real Jesus: Epstein Survivor Shares How Faith Set Her Free

Hope Beryl-Green, a survivor of Jeffrey Epstein, was born into trafficking and decades-long abuse in which perpetrators twisted the Bible to enslave her. Signed over to Epstein at age five, she was subjected to sexual abuse and mind control, flown to locations around the world, and locked in rooms where she was told the abuse was God’s will. “From infancy, I was trained to believe that I was a monster, that I was a horrible person that God hated,” Beryl-Green told Premier Christian News. “So, if God hates you and Jesus hates you, then obviously you deserve what you’re going through. That’s how they’re able to keep you in the system.” The abuse specifically targeted Jesus, twisting prayer and Scripture—a tactic Beryl-Green describes as “the worst form of abuse there is.” She believes abusers target Jesus because they know His true power: “They actually know scripture better than a lot of Christians. The main reason they target Jesus is because of the freedom that you receive through his death on the cross and the grace you feel.”

For Beryl-Green, the true nature of God was revealed on a rare occasion when she was let outside. “I saw a yellow flower and a yellow butterfly,” she recalled. “In that moment, the Lord really gave me hope that there could be something else for me. Everybody needs hope in order to survive trauma.” After 31 years, she broke free from the slavery and abuse but did not feel welcomed by the Church because of flawed views of forgiveness. Now a Christian minister advocating for justice, Beryl-Green is urging the Church to open its eyes to modern-day slavery and help rescue victims. She launched the STAND group with survivors of Mohamed Al Fayed, calling for stronger action against human trafficking and exploitation. She encourages churches to pray about how they can help, whether by offering safe places, listening to survivor stories, or training to equip themselves in helping survivors heal. For victims of exploitation, she says it can be “very scary to step out in the church situation,” but she encourages them to allow the Lord to connect them with the right people and to understand that they are not alone in this journey. Her testimony is a powerful reminder that even in the darkest circumstances, God’s truth can break through the lies, and His love can set the captives free.
