From Atheism to Eternity: ‘American Idol’ Star Breanna Nix Leads 80-Year-Old Lifelong Atheist to Christ

Christian country singer Breanna Nix, who came in third on “American Idol” in 2025, is using the platform she gained from the show to share the Gospel and lead people to Christ. In a powerful testimony shared on her Instagram page, Nix recalled a situation in which an 80-year-old lifelong atheist attended one of her concerts and came to know Christ as his personal Lord and Savior. “A couple months back, we were at a concert, and it was actually a country concert, and we were singing a lot of country music,” she recalled. “And I ended up slipping a few Christian songs in there.” At the meet and greet after the show, one man stood out to her—he approached her, hugged her, and started crying. Nix soon learned that the man had recently lost his wife and was brought to the show by his daughter to get his mind off the recent passing. But then something unexpected happened: the man told Nix that while he had been an atheist his whole life, her performance that night had caused him to question what he believed. “You have made me start to kind of question, as you were singing, and you’re the first person in my life to ever do that,” he told her.

Understanding that he did not have much time left on Earth, the man expressed interest in giving “this Jesus thing” a try. Nix shared John 3:16 with him, telling him that all he had to do was believe, and his reaction stayed with her forever. “Those tears that were just in his eyes actually started rolling down his cheeks all the way to his chest,” she recalled. “And I’ll never forget how he grabbed me, and he shook me and he said, ‘Oh, girl, please allow me to do this right now. Can you lead me through it and help me?'” Nix then shared Romans 10:9 with him and led him in the Sinner’s Prayer. “He confessed with his mouth, and he believed, and he was saved in an instant,” she said. “In a moment, this man spent his whole life feeling depleted, feeling depressed, feeling like there was nothing that he could cling to. He was changed, and he had a hope. He had a security and he was saved.” Nix concluded her video by asking viewers if they, too, have been walking through life without hope, and urging them to come home to Christ. “If you confess your sins and you believe that Jesus Christ died for you and rose again, you too can be saved,” she said. “He is tugging at you. He is pulling for you. Why don’t you come home?”
