Brazil’s Changing Faith: Evangelicals Now Nearly 27% as Catholic Dominance Declines

Brazil is experiencing a major shift in its religious landscape. According to the country’s 2022 census, evangelicals now make up 26.9% of Brazil’s population, representing about 56 million people, while the Catholic population has continued to decline. The census shows Catholics falling from 74.4% in 2000 to 57% in 2022, while evangelical Christianity continues to grow, particularly among younger Brazilians.
