A Legacy of Faith: DOE Unveils Third Studio Album “Shiloh,” Celebrating Generational Worship
GRAMMY® Award-winning singer, songwriter, and musician DOE has released her highly anticipated third studio album, Shiloh, available now via SONY/Provident. The 12-track project is a deeply personal worship experience rooted in the promise of God’s presence and inspired by Psalm 22:27, with the album’s title pointing to both the meaning of her son’s name—”peace”—and “the One to whom it belongs.” Featuring guest appearances from Joe L Barnes, Israel Houghton, Lizzie Morgan, and a special duet with her mother, Pastor Kim Jones, on “Mighty Long Way,” the album explores themes of legacy, family, faith, and the goodness of God passed from one generation to the next. “Psalm 22 really became the foundation for this project, especially the word ‘posterity,'” DOE explains. “We were someone’s posterity at some point. Someone had to make sure we knew who the Lord was and that we could call on His name, and now it’s our job to pass that on to the next generation.”
The album captures the experience of faith being received, lived, and carried forward within a family, with DOE’s own family contributing background vocals throughout the project. Sonically, Shiloh moves fluidly between gospel, contemporary Christian music, worship, and R&B, drawing from the diverse musical influences that shaped DOE’s upbringing—from the Clark Sisters and Israel Houghton to Andraé Crouch, Ron Kenoly, and Hillsong. “All of those sounds are in me. I think that’s what a genre really is: a sonic, musical language,” she shares. “With Shiloh, I wanted all of those languages to have a place in the room, so people can hear something they recognize and think, ‘Oh, I speak that language. That’s my language.'” The album’s sonic elements were captured in a live worship environment designed to recreate the sensory experience of DOE’s childhood, from worshipping among the pews to the emotional familiarity of growing up in church. With Shiloh, DOE has crafted a project that not only honors her heritage but invites listeners to find their own place in the story of God’s faithfulness across generations.
