Iran Dismisses Alleged Assassination Plot Against Barron Trump as ‘a Lie’

55views

Iran’s top security official has dismissed reports of an alleged plot to assassinate President Donald Trump’s youngest son, Barron Trump, calling the claims a lie. Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, made the comments during an interview broadcast by Lebanon’s Al-Manar TV on Thursday, according to Iran International. The denial came just days after the U.S. Secret Service confirmed it was aware of a video aired by Iranian state television that discussed a potential plot against the 20-year-old, claiming he was being monitored and that a $10 million bounty had been placed on his life. The video reportedly showed images of locations related to Barron Trump, including his place of study at New York University, and ended with the message: “Barron Trump, wait for us!”

The U.S. Secret Service confirmed it was investigating the video as a potential threat to a protected person, emphasizing that it takes all such threats seriously. The reported threat against Barron Trump follows a similar video targeting First Lady Melania Trump released in July, and comes against the backdrop of longstanding Iranian threats against President Trump himself over the 2020 U.S. strike that killed Iranian General Qasem Soleimani. Meanwhile, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) commander Adm. Brad Cooper confirmed that sea mines have been cleared from the Strait of Hormuz’s international shipping lanes. Cooper also noted that U.S. forces have assisted nearly 1,500 commercial vessels transiting the strait, carrying nearly 750 million barrels of crude oil destined for global energy markets.
