President Donald Trump revealed Wednesday that Iran reached out to request negotiations after the U.S. prepared what he described as a “massive military strike,” arguing that sustained military pressure has brought Tehran back to the bargaining table. Speaking to supporters in Las Vegas, Trump declared that the U.S. was “set for the biggest attack since World War II” before Iranian officials contacted him to plead for diplomacy. “They called me and they said, ‘Please don’t do it, let’s talk,'” Trump stated. While expressing a preference for a diplomatic resolution over further military action, the President reiterated his firm stance: “I’d rather make a deal because I don’t want to kill people. But Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon.”
Vance: Iran Talks Moving ‘One Step Forward, Two Steps Back’
Vice President JD Vance provided additional insight into the state of negotiations, acknowledging the process has been uneven and describing it as “one step forward, two steps back, then three steps forward and one step back.” Speaking with Fox News host Laura Ingraham, Vance attributed the inconsistent progress to deep divisions within Iran’s leadership, noting that while some officials seek an end to the conflict, “crazy radicals” want it to continue . “Our job is to navigate through that and get the best outcome for the American people,” Vance said . He remained confident the administration will ultimately reach a favorable outcome, predicting falling oil prices and insisting Iran “will never have a nuclear weapon” . Vance also embraced his central role in the negotiations, telling critics, “If they want to make me own the effort to try to bring this war to a successful conclusion, I’m happy to let them make me own it.”
