Michigan Father Fatally Shoots Wife, Six Children Then Sets Home Ablaze in Murder-Suicide
A Grand Haven Township father is believed to have shot his wife and six children before intentionally setting their home on fire in a horrific murder-suicide, according to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities identified the adults as Kristopher Karolkiewicz, 47, and Amanda Karolkiewicz, 39, with their six children—four boys ages 15, 12, 11, and 5, and two girls, both 11, two of whom were adopted . All eight victims were found with gunshot wounds after officials responded to a house fire on Friday . The sheriff’s office stated that preliminary indications suggest the fire was intentionally set in numerous places throughout the interior of the residence . The family pets also perished in the blaze.
The tragedy unfolded after Amanda Karolkiewicz had recently returned from a trip to Shanghai Disneyland with her two adopted daughters . Investigators from the Michigan State Police arson unit are continuing to examine the cause and origin of the fire . Amanda’s stepfather, Steve Lawwill, expressed the family’s devastation, saying they are “so shattered” . The sheriff’s office has confirmed there are no additional suspects in the case.
