CAUGHT RED-HANDED: Sen. Scott Accuses China of Shipping Missile Chemicals to Iran as U.S. Forces Intercept Vessel

In a dramatic escalation of rhetoric against Beijing, Senator Rick Scott declared Tuesday that China has been “caught red-handed” attempting to supply Iran with dual-use chemicals capable of fueling ballistic missile production. The accusation follows the interception of an Iranian-linked cargo vessel, the MV Touska, in the Gulf of Oman on April 19 by U.S. forces. According to reports, the ship had docked twice at Zhuhai, a port in southern China, in the six weeks leading up to the seizure. Taking to X, Scott did not mince words: “COMMUNIST CHINA got caught red-handed, headed to Iran to provide them with dual-use chemicals used to create BALLISTIC MISSILES while our great military is fighting in the Gulf.” He went on to describe Beijing as an “imminent threat” to U.S. national security, adding, “This is EXACTLY why they are our enemy.”

The interception comes amid heightened tensions in the strategic waterway, where Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) reportedly fired on a separate container ship in the Strait of Hormuz just days earlier. The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) confirmed that an IRGC gunboat approached a vessel approximately 15 nautical miles northeast of Oman, opening fire and causing “heavy damage.” Fortunately, the crew was reported safe. While the connection between the two incidents remains unclear, Senator Scott’s allegations place China squarely in the crosshairs of an already volatile geopolitical landscape. As the MV Touska remains in U.S. custody, the Biden administration has yet to issue an official response to Scott’s claims, but the senator’s fiery statement has already reignited debate over Beijing’s role in arming U.S. adversaries.
