Iranian state media has now confirmed that Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, 86, was killed in the strikes at his Tehran office, prompting a 40-day national mourning period . Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed there were “growing signs” of Khamenei’s death and called on Iranians to “overthrow the regime,” while urging them that “this is your time to join forces, to secure your future” . Iran has already launched retaliatory missile barrages at Israel and multiple Gulf states housing US military assets, including Bahrain’s Fifth Fleet headquarters and Qatar’s Al Udeid Air Base, as at least eight nations have closed their airspace and global airlines have halted regional flights amid fears of a widening war.
