A 45-year-old Egyptian national, Mohamed Sabry Soliman, has been charged in connection with a gruesome terror attack that left eight people injured in Boulder, Colorado, on Sunday. Soliman, who overstayed his visa after entering the country in August 2022, allegedly set his victims on fire as they peacefully rallied on behalf of Israeli hostages still being held by Hamas in Gaza. The suspect was heard yelling “Free Palestine” and other anti-Israel slogans during the attack, which targeted victims ranging in age from 52 to 88.

A Heinous Act of Terror
The attack took place near an event organized by “Run for Their Lives,” a grassroots group that advocates for the release of Israeli hostages held since October 7, 2023. The group described the attack as “unprovoked” and called for world leaders to take action to secure the release of the hostages. Colorado Governor Jared Polis condemned the attack as a “heinous act of terror,” and Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser stated that the attack appears to be a hate crime.

Investigation Underway
The FBI is investigating the attack as an act of “ideologically motivated violence.” Authorities have confirmed that Soliman is in the country illegally as a visa overstay and was authorized to work in the US through March of this year. The investigation is ongoing, with the Boulder Police Department working closely with federal authorities.
