U.S. Urges Americans to Leave Iran Immediately as Tensions Escalate

The U.S. Virtual Embassy in Iran issued an urgent security alert on Sunday, urging Americans to leave the country immediately amid heightened tensions in the Middle East. “Do not travel to Iran for any reason. U.S. citizens should leave Iran now,” the embassy said in a statement shared online. The alert warned of potential flight cancellations and airspace closures, noting that the security environment remained “complex” with the potential for “unforeseen escalation.” It advised Americans in the region to exercise heightened vigilance and to check with their airlines directly for updates on flight departures. The embassy also warned that “Iranian-supported Houthis” have engaged in hostilities against Saudi Arabia, including attacks on civilian airports, and cautioned that “this military conflict has the potential to escalate rapidly.”

The warning comes as Qatari mediators work behind the scenes to bridge the divide between Iran and the United States, shuttling proposals between different capitals in hopes of restarting negotiations. “For the past couple of weeks now, we’ve been going back and forth over different ideas to restart the talks,” Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed Al-Ansari told Bloomberg’s “This Weekend.” He detailed how Qatari teams have worked through mediators with “both Tehran and the U.S.” following the resurgence of hostilities to see if formally resuming negotiations is possible, adding that “a lot of ideas have been thrown back and forth” and that mediators are “trying to bridge the gap and find the right moment to move forward.” Ansari expressed hope that diplomatic efforts would yield “other documents and other ideas that could actually develop the discussion even more.” As the situation remains volatile, the U.S. is taking no chances with the safety of its citizens, while Qatari diplomats work tirelessly to pull the region back from the brink of a wider conflict.
