‘Keep the Faith’: Joe Biden Shares Prostate Cancer Update, Encourages Men to Get Screened

Former President Joe Biden has shared a positive health update on his battle with prostate cancer, revealing that radiation treatment he underwent last fall “worked as intended” while urging American men to have open conversations with their doctors about cancer screening. In a lengthy social media post marking Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, the 83-year-old former president said the occasion had become deeply personal following his diagnosis last year. “The radiation treatment from last fall worked as intended, and I continue to do the things I care about, like finishing my memoir,” Biden wrote. He expressed gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and medical professionals who have treated him, calling their “skill, dedication, and compassion mean so much.”

Biden used much of his message to emphasize the importance of early detection, pointing to the dramatically higher survival rates when prostate cancer is caught early. He encouraged men at average risk to begin discussing screening with their doctors around age 50, while noting that Black men and those with a family history should start those conversations earlier. “Talk to your doctors. Ask the hard questions. Do it for yourself, and do it for the people who love you,” Biden wrote. The former president was diagnosed in May 2025 with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that had metastasized to his bones, and he later underwent radiation therapy. He closed his message by thanking those who have continued to pray for him and his family, writing, “It’s my hope and prayer that by sharing our experience and being part of this important conversation, we can help save lives. And no matter what, keep the faith. God bless you.”
