241views

In a significant development, Hamas has signaled partial acceptance of US President Donald Trump’s proposal to end the war in Gaza, which includes releasing all remaining hostages and disarming. This move comes after Trump warned Hamas to agree to the deal by Sunday evening or face an “unprecedented military escalation”.

Key Points of the Deal- Hamas’ Acceptance: Hamas has agreed to release all remaining hostages, around 48 in total, with 20 believed to be alive. The group will also give up power and disarm.

– Israel’s Commitment: In return, Israel will halt its offensive, withdraw from much of Gaza, release hundreds of Palestinian prisoners, and allow large-scale humanitarian aid and reconstruction.

– International Administration: The Gaza Strip will be placed under international administration, overseen by Trump and former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair.

– Reconstruction: The plan envisions shelving earlier plans to relocate parts of Gaza’s population abroad and allows for the reconstruction of Gaza.

Reactions- Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu: “With God’s help, we will bring them all home… A great day for Israel.”

– Trump: “I believe they are ready for a lasting PEACE. Israel must immediately stop the bombing of Gaza, so that we can get the Hostages out safely and quickly!”

– Hamas Official: Mousa Abu Marzouk said the group supports some aspects of the plan, but others are “unacceptable” and must be revised.

Challenges Ahead

While the agreement marks a significant step towards peace, many details remain unclear, and challenges lie ahead. The plan’s success depends on various factors, including Israel’s commitment to the deal and Hamas’ willingness to disarm.
