Apostle Gideon Odoma, a prominent Nigerian televangelist, delivered a powerful message addressing the growing concern over “Lapo Nepo” culture and its contribution to an emotionally distorted perception of life online.
In a post made by the clergyman, via his X page, Odoma cautioned viewers about the trend of grooming social media personalities whose fame is supported more by nepotistic ties (“Lapo Nepo”) than by genuine talent or achievement.
He described this phenomenon as creating an illusion of success, a mirage that masks the hard work, struggle, and authenticity that underpin real life.
“A lot of what you see online—luxury, popularity, fame—is often just a curated show,” Odoma emphasized.

“Social media is great for connection, but it can also trap people in a lie… chasing an image, a façade.”
He further argued that this culture encourages unhealthy comparisons, cultivates unrealistic expectations, and can lead to disappointment, frustration, and disillusionment—especially among young, impressionable users.
