Divine Intervention: Nurses’ Strike Turns into Gospel Opportunity

227views

In a remarkable turn of events, Pentecostal churches in Kenya’s Kajiado region have leveraged a local nurses’ strike to share the gospel with the Maasai community. For nearly three decades, a partnership between a UK-based Christian medical team and local Pentecostal churches had struggled to establish relationships with the semi-nomadic Maasai people, who prioritize preserving their traditional culture. However, the strike in April created an unexpected opening when a UK charity, TOSOL Initiative, arrived in the area to provide medical care. “God plans in wonderful ways,” said Pastor Paul Sikolia Sahale of Bisil, expressing gratitude for the timely intervention.

A New Era of Cooperation

The TOSOL team, alongside Elim Missions, provided medical care, surgical equipment, and demonstrated new surgical techniques, treating hundreds of people for injuries and eye conditions. This effort not only showcased the love of Christ but also helped establish meaningful relationships with the Maasai community. As a result, 11 local communities donated 20 acres of land to Elim Pentecostal Church to build new churches, with one new church launching with 60 members in Paranai. The Elim Pentecostal Church of Kenya, which has planted over 400 churches across the country, is now aiming to establish 100 churches in the region by 2027. This remarkable transformation highlights the power of faith and collaboration in bridging cultural divides.
