A Taste of Excellence: Lima’s Maido Crowned World’s Best Restaurant

In a culinary triumph, Lima’s Maido has been crowned the World’s Best Restaurant 2025, solidifying its position as a global gastronomic powerhouse. This Nikkei cuisine specialist, led by chef Mitsuharu “Micha” Tsumura, seamlessly blends meticulous Japanese techniques with vibrant Peruvian ingredients, creating a truly unique dining experience. Maido’s ascent to the top spot is a testament to its innovative approach, which has captivated food enthusiasts worldwide. With 16 years of culinary excellence, Maido has proven that gastronomy can indeed make dreams come true.

The World’s 50 Best Restaurants list reveals a growing appreciation for hyperlocal ingredients and creative presentations. Alongside Maido, Kjolle in Lima secured ninth place, showcasing the city’s burgeoning fine dining scene. Bangkok emerged as a significant winner, with six restaurants in the top 50, including Gaggan at number six and Potong at number 13. The latter’s innovative Thai-Chinese cuisine earned it the Highest New Entry award. As the culinary world continues to evolve, restaurants like Maido and Potong are redefining the boundaries of fine dining, inspiring a new generation of chefs and food enthusiasts alike.
The top 50
The annual list is compiled based on the votes of the World’s 50 Best Restaurants Academy, which is made up of more than 1,100 international restaurant industry experts including food writers and chefs, in 28 regions around the world.
Restaurants can only win the top prize once, after which they’re entered into a separate “Best of the Best” program.
Members of that elite group include Geranium and Noma in Copenhagen, as well as New York’s Eleven Madison Park, The Fat Duck near London, Osteria Francescana in Modena, Italy, Mirazur in Menton, France and Central of Lima. Last year’s “50 Best Restaurants” winner, Barcelona’s Disfrutar, is also now on that list.
