The Royal College of Organists and the Royal School of Church Music have unveiled an ambitious initiative to breathe new life into the art of organ playing. Play the Organ Year 2025 will feature a series of concerts across the UK, designed to inspire a new generation of musicians to explore this majestic instrument. With its rich history and unmatched versatility, the organ holds a vital place in both sacred and secular music traditions. “We firmly believe that the best way to achieve both these objectives is to get as many people as possible not just hearing and seeing the instrument, but playing it!” the campaign emphasizes.
Anna Lapwood, Director of Music at Pembroke College, Cambridge, and patron of the campaign, brings her passion and influence to the forefront. A trailblazer for women in organ music, Lapwood is using her platform to encourage more girls and women to take up the instrument. Known for her engaging TikTok videos, she has captured audiences with renditions of popular themes and even accompanied BRIT-winning artist Raye at the Royal Albert Hall. This campaign promises to demystify the organ, showcasing its versatility while fostering a deeper appreciation for its unique role in music.
