Rediscovering Father’s House: Brian Doerksen’s Classic Album Returns to Heal and Inspire a New Generation

3views

In celebration of its 30th anniversary, Brian Doerksen’s groundbreaking album Father’s House returns, reigniting a journey of spiritual healing and intimate connection. Originally released in May 1994, this concept album broke new ground for Doerksen, who had already become a cherished figure in Christian music with worship anthems like “Refiner’s Fire” and “Faithful One.” Unlike his previous works, Father’s House delves into the heartache of the “father-wound” that Doerksen observed throughout society, bringing to life the profound message of God as “Abba – Father.” This deeply personal portrayal offers a nurturing, compassionate vision of the divine, inspired by Jesus’ depiction of God as a caring parent, transcending the formal, distant image often associated with religious authority. Produced by Canadian pop hitmaker Paul Janz and recently re-mastered by Philip Janz, the album introduces listeners to a young man named Anthony, who encounters a mysterious old woman named Nellie. Through song and story, Anthony is invited into a soul-stirring journey toward the love of a divine Father.

For years, Father’s House was out of print, yet its impact never faded as fans urged Doerksen to re-release the album. Now, with the inclusion of freshly recorded tracks like “Father To Son” and “There Must Be A Place,” alongside a reimagined “Stay” from his Faithful One album, Doerksen brings his original vision into a new era. Known globally for his music’s healing impact in countless faith communities, Doerksen’s legacy is rich with accolades, including three JUNO nominations and a 2008 win for Holy God. In recent years, he’s only deepened his musical contributions, from his LEO Award-winning project Christmas At Our House to his performance at the prestigious Coronation Prom at London’s Royal Albert Hall. As he continues to release heartfelt music, including his recent single “Every Dream (God Who Sees),” Doerksen’s journey is marked not only by artistic achievements but by a commitment to portraying divine love in its most gentle and transformative form. With the re-release of Father’s House, Doerksen invites listeners old and new to rediscover a place of belonging and healing, where they can experience the timeless message of a Father’s waiting love.
