Update: Tragedy Strikes: Beloved Gospel Group The Nelons Lose Three Members in Devastating Plane Crash
Friday afternoon – 26 July, 2024, the music world was left reeling in shock and grief as news spread of a tragic plane crash that claimed the lives of three members of the beloved family gospel group, The Nelons. Kelly Nelon Clark, her husband Jason Clark, and their daughter Amber Nelon Kistler were headed to the Gaither Homecoming Cruise to Alaska when the devastating crash occurred, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and music.
The crash, which also claimed the lives of four others, including the pilot and Amber’s husband, has sent waves of sorrow through the hearts of fans and fellow artists alike. The Nelons’ music was more than just a melody – it was a testament to their unwavering faith and a beacon of hope in a world filled with darkness. Their sudden departure has left a gaping void in the world of gospel music, and their absence will be deeply felt.
The National Transportation Safety Board said the crash occurred near Recluse, Wyoming, a community in the northeast of the state.
Kelly and Jason’s other daughter, Autumn Nelon Streetman, who was also a member of the group, was not on the plane. She released a brief statement thanking people for the “prayers that have been extended already to me, my husband, Jamie, and our soon-to-be-born baby boy, as well as Jason’s parents, Dan and Linda Clark.”
“We appreciate your continued prayers, love and support as we navigate the coming days,” she said.
The group’s last Instagram post was on Friday after they documented a pit stop in Nebraska.
“Gaither Homecoming Alaskan cruise. We are on our way” Jason Clark said before panning the camera to show the rest of the group.
As the music community comes together to mourn the loss of these precious lives, we remember the indelible mark The Nelons left on the world of gospel music. With over 35 albums and 20 Top 5 Southern Gospel radio singles, their legacy will live on through the countless lives they touched. We weep not only for the music that will never be made but also for the bright lights that have been extinguished far too soon.
In the face of such tragedy, we find comfort in the knowledge that The Nelons’ music will continue to inspire and uplift us. Their family’s request for prayers and support is a testament to their unwavering faith, even in the darkest of times. As we navigate the coming days, we will hold The Nelons and their loved ones in our hearts and memories, cherishing the memories of their time with us and the music that will forever be etched in our souls.
