Epstein Files to Go Public: Trump Signs Law Authorizing Release of Records

President Donald Trump has signed a law requiring the Justice Department to release files related to the late financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The move comes after the Justice Department and FBI announced in July they would not unseal investigation materials related to Epstein.

The Epstein Files Transparency Act, passed by the House of Representatives with a 421-1 vote and unanimously approved by the Senate, directs the Justice Department to release all unclassified records and investigative materials related to Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell. The files will be made public online in a searchable format within 30 days, with redactions to protect victims’ identities and sensitive information.
Trump’s decision to sign the bill marks a reversal of his earlier stance, as he had initially resisted releasing the files, calling it a “Democrat hoax”. However, he later changed his position, stating he had “nothing to hide” and urging Republicans to vote for the release. The move has sparked intense debate, with some arguing it will bring transparency and accountability, while others express concerns about the potential harm to innocent individuals.
