An Ohio pastor known for his outspoken criticism of LGBTQ rights is now facing a string of shocking criminal allegations. Silas Shelton, 48, of Blanchester Community Ministries in Ohio, has been arrested and charged with rape, sexual battery, unlawful sexual contact with a minor, and gross sexual imposition, according to the Wilmington Police Department. Investigators allege Shelton engaged in repeated sexual abuse of a teenage girl—then just 14 or 15—between 2019 and 2025. The victim and her parents were reportedly members of Shelton’s congregation, and detectives say the teen felt “trapped” due to his position as pastor.

Shelton, who once described identifying as LGBTQ as a “health risk,” previously made headlines for condemning the Heartstopper book series at a 2023 school meeting, calling its gay themes “sickening.” Now, those fiery public remarks have resurfaced amid disturbing accusations of hypocrisy and abuse. Police also revealed additional charges from a July 2025 arson case, in which Shelton allegedly set fire to a home and an SUV. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges and remains in custody as investigations continue. The unfolding case has left both the local faith community and wider public grappling with questions about trust, power, and accountability within church leadership.
