Trump Rejects Ukraine’s Tomahawk Request, Calls for Immediate Ceasefire: ‘Both Sides Should Go Home

In a dramatic turn during his White House meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, U.S. President Donald Trump denied Ukraine’s request for Tomahawk cruise missiles, instead urging both nations to “stop the war immediately.” Zelensky, who arrived in Washington seeking the long-range weapons to strike deep into Russia’s energy infrastructure, left without the arsenal he had hoped for. Trump, addressing reporters later in West Palm Beach, emphasized that the U.S. “needs” its Tomahawks and sought to pivot from escalation to peace. “You go by the battle line, wherever it is. Otherwise, it’s too complicated,” he said. “Both sides should go home, go to their families, stop the killing. And that should be it.”

The meeting followed Trump’s phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, during which the Kremlin leader reportedly warned that sending Tomahawks to Ukraine would damage U.S.–Russia relations without changing the war’s outcome. Despite Trump’s public appeal for calm, Zelensky continued rallying European leaders virtually after the talks, reaffirming Ukraine’s “unwavering commitment” to resisting Russian aggression. While Trump has not definitively ruled out future missile support, his latest stance signals a shift toward de-escalation and potential diplomacy — a move that could reshape both the battlefield dynamics and the broader geopolitical conversation surrounding the war in Eastern Europe.
