Trump Revives Rosie O’Donnell Feud With Citizenship Threat — Experts Say It’s Impossible

President Donald Trump reignited his long-running feud with actress and comedian Rosie O’Donnell on Wednesday, declaring on Truth Social that he is giving “serious thought” to stripping her of U.S. citizenship. “She is not a Great American and is, in my opinion, incapable of being so!” Trump wrote, echoing earlier remarks in which he called O’Donnell a “Threat to Humanity.” Constitutional scholars were quick to point out that such a move is legally impossible under the 14th Amendment, which guarantees citizenship to anyone born in the United States.

Rosie O'Donnell on the red carpet

O’Donnell, born in New York, has long sparred with Trump, responding to his July threats by mocking him as “king joffrey with a tangerine spray tan” and vowing not to be silenced. The comedian, who relocated to Ireland with her daughter earlier this year, is pursuing Irish citizenship, citing America’s political climate as the reason for her departure. “When it is safe for all citizens to have equal rights there in America, that’s when we will consider coming back,” she said in a TikTok message.

The Trump–O’Donnell feud stretches back nearly 20 years, originating from O’Donnell’s criticism of him on The View in 2006. Trump famously responded during a 2015 Republican primary debate, when asked about his derogatory comments toward women: “Only Rosie O’Donnell.” With his latest salvo, the clash between the former president and the outspoken comedian appears destined to remain one of America’s most enduring and bizarre celebrity-political rivalries.
