The Grammy-nominated band Sanctus Real recently performed at the Grafton Correctional Facility in Ohio, a maximum-security prison where they brought hope and the message of Jesus to hundreds of inmates. The concert, sponsored by Send Musicians to Prison, a non-profit organization dedicated to sharing music with incarcerated individuals, was a unique experience for the band. Lead singer Dustin Lolly described it as “both nerve-wracking and incredibly fulfilling,” adding that the inmates warmly received their music.

A Genuine Concert Experience
What made this event stand out was the intimate setting created by Send Musicians to Prison, which transformed the prison area into a space where music could genuinely connect people. The band performed a full-length concert, and four songs from the event are available on YouTube. Sanctus Real’s guitarist, Chris Rohman, reflected on the experience, saying, “It’s been a long time since I felt such a purpose and conviction in sharing these songs of hope with an audience.” He witnessed God using their songs to uplift the spirit in the room, breaking down spiritual walls.

Mutual Blessing
The concert highlighted the power of music to transcend boundaries and bring hope to those in need. While Sanctus Real aimed to bless the inmates with their music, they left with a deeper sense of God’s calling and an appreciation for the often-overlooked ministry of reaching those behind bars. Drummer Mark Graalman poignantly observed, “You don’t know who really got ministered to, more — them or us,” underscoring the mutual blessing that occurred during the concert.
