Breaking Barriers: Botrus Mansour Makes History as First Arab Christian Secretary General of World Evangelical Alliance

In a groundbreaking move, the World Evangelical Alliance (WEA) has appointed Advocate Botrus Mansour as its new Secretary General and Chief Executive Officer, marking a historic milestone as the first Arab Christian to lead the global evangelical body. Mansour, an Arab-Israeli of Palestinian descent from Nazareth, brings extensive experience in church leadership and reconciliation initiatives to his new role. With over 600 million believers across 148 countries represented by the WEA, Mansour’s appointment is seen as a significant step towards unity and global mission.

Mansour expressed his deep commitment to rallying the global evangelical community behind the WEA’s ambitious theme, “The Gospel for Everyone by 2033.” He emphasized the importance of unity and cooperation, stating, “With God’s grace, I will work relentlessly with others to remove any obstacles that may seek to hinder our unity… The Gospel of peace, justice, and righteousness is the true solution for our aching world.” Mansour’s leadership roles include chairing the Convention of Evangelical Churches in Israel and serving as deputy chair of the Nazareth Village board. He will formally assume his new role at the WEA’s upcoming General Assembly in Seoul, South Korea
