Breaking Barriers: Rev Canon Dr Jennifer Holden Makes History as First Female Dean

The Diocese of Aberdeen & Orkney has just made history with the appointment of Rev Canon Dr Jennifer Holden as its first female Dean. This milestone marks a significant step forward for women in leadership roles within the Scottish Episcopal Church. What’s more remarkable is that Rev Holden will be serving alongside Rt Rev Anne Dyer, the Bishop of Aberdeen and Orkney, making their diocese the first in Scotland to have both a female bishop and dean simultaneously.

Rev Holden’s journey to this appointment is truly inspiring. A longtime member of the Diocese, she began worshipping as a layperson before discerning her vocation to ordination. With a background in community engagement, education, and communication, Rev Holden brings a wealth of experience to her new role. Her academic credentials are impressive, and her work as a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Aberdeen has given her valuable insights into the impact of digital technology on rural communities. As Dean, Rev Holden looks forward to supporting congregations and guiding members of the Church, leveraging her deep love and commitment to the Diocese and its inclusive community.
