A Texas family is praising divine intervention after they clung to a tree for two hours to escape the deadly flood that ravaged their region. Melissa Higginbotham, her father, and her daughter were swept away by floodwaters in their truck, but they managed to climb onto a tree and stay perched there until emergency crews arrived. Higginbotham credited their survival to God’s protection, saying, “God was with us and God made sure we were okay.” The family’s ordeal began when they tried to escape the rising floodwaters in their car, but it floated away, and they had to abandon it and climb into the father’s truck.

A Community Rallies Together
The floodwaters eventually swept the truck away, but it got stuck in a tree, giving the family a chance to climb onto the tree and safety. They stayed there for about two hours until they were rescued. The community is coming together to support those affected by the flood. Round Mountain Baptist Church is helping with food and water distribution, and Higginbotham praised the community’s response, saying, “It’s Leander at its best, no two ways about it. Community supporting community.” The flood has claimed over 100 lives, including 27 campers and counselors from Camp Mystic, a popular Christian camp in Kerr County.
A Tragic Reminder of Nature’s Power
The devastating flood serves as a reminder of the power of nature and the importance of community support in times of crisis. As the death toll continues to rise, the community is coming together to support those affected and provide aid to those in need. The family’s miraculous escape is a testament to the power of faith and the importance of community support. As Higginbotham said, “God was with us,” and it’s clear that their faith played a significant role in their survival
