Bryan Kohberger, 30, has pleaded guilty to the murders of four University of Idaho students in 2022. As part of a plea agreement, Kohberger will serve four consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole, sparing him from the death penalty. The agreement also includes a guilty plea to one count of felony burglary. The case drew national attention due to its brutal nature and the extensive investigation that followed.

The victims, Ethan Chapin, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle, and Kaylee Goncalves, were found stabbed to death in an off-campus rental home in Moscow, Idaho. DNA evidence from a knife sheath left at the crime scene matched Kohberger’s, and cellphone data placed him near the victims’ house multiple times before the killings. Surveillance footage also captured a white Hyundai Elantra in the area, further implicating Kohberger in the crimes.

The plea agreement has sparked mixed reactions from the families of the victims. While the Mogen family has expressed a sense of closure and hope for healing, the Goncalves family has criticized the agreement, feeling that justice has not been fully served. “No, of course not. It’s daycare,” Steve Goncalves, Kaylee’s father, said when asked if he felt justice was served. The sentencing is set for July 23, and Kohberger will spend the rest of his life behind bars.
