Michael Tait, former lead singer of Newsboys and co-founder of DC Talk, has been accused of sexual misconduct and substance abuse by multiple men. According to an investigation by The Roys Report, which spanned over two years and included interviews with over 50 sources, Tait allegedly engaged in predatory behavior with young men in their early 20s between 2004 and 2014. The allegations include grooming, unwanted physical contact, and offering cocaine to his accusers. Tait’s actions were reportedly well-known within Nashville’s Christian music community, with some referring to it as an “open secret”.

Michael Tait Faces New Serious Allegations as Investigation Continues

Tait has since confessed to the allegations, stating that they are “largely true” and that he has been living a “double life”. He claimed to have sought treatment and completed six weeks of rehab in Utah, where he has been six months sober. Tait expressed remorse for his actions, acknowledging the pain and hurt he has caused to many people. The Newsboys bandmates, including Jody Davis, Duncan Phillips, Jeff Frankenstein, and Adam Agee, released a statement expressing their devastation and heartbreak over the allegations, emphasizing their support for the victims and condemning any form of sexual assault.

The allegations against Tait raise concerns about the Christian music industry’s handling of such issues and the need for greater accountability. Israel Anthem, a Nashville-based videographer, highlighted the complexity of the situation, stating that knowledge about Tait’s behavior is deeply ingrained in the industry, making it challenging to address.
