In a chilling revelation, former Disney star Christy Carlson Romano shared the terrifying details of a clay pigeon shooting incident that left her with severe facial injuries, mere millimeters from blinding her. The incident occurred four months ago while Romano and her husband, Brendan Rooney, were celebrating his birthday at a shooting range. Romano recalled being struck by birdshot pellets sprayed in her direction by another party, resulting in injuries to her face, including below her eye.
The Incident
Romano described the moment she was shot, saying, “I feel very out of body about it… I’m shocked, and what goes through my head immediately is, ‘Oh that’s dope, I just got shot.’ And then I go, ‘Oh now I’m gonna die.'” Her husband, who witnessed the incident, rushed to her aid, restraining himself from retaliating against the other party. Romano instinctively gave her husband a thumbs-up, a habit formed during her time on the reality TV series “Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test,” where contestants were trained to signal they’re okay during perilous challenges.
The Aftermath
Romano revealed that she has fragments of the shotgun pellets still lodged in her face, including one behind her eye, just 1 millimeter away from causing blindness. Doctors have advised against removing the fragments, citing potential risks to her vision and expedited healing process. Romano expressed her initial concerns after being shot, “Am I gonna die? Who’s gonna take care of the girls? Is my career over?” referencing her daughters Isabella and Sofia.
