North Korea’s Secret Support for Russia Exposed: Millions of Munitions and Thousands of Troops

61views

A recent report by the Multilateral Sanctions Monitoring Team (MSMT) has shed light on North Korea’s extensive military support to Russia, significantly escalating the conflict in Ukraine. According to the report, North Korea has supplied Russia with approximately 9 million rounds of artillery and ammunition in 2024 alone, along with over 11,000 troops last year and an additional 3,000 troops in the early months of this year. The MSMT, comprising 11 UN member states, revealed that North Korea’s military aid includes rocket launchers, vehicles, self-propelled guns, and at least 100 ballistic missiles launched into Ukraine to destroy civilian infrastructure and terrorize populated areas.

A Deepening Strategic Partnership
The MSMT report highlights a deepening strategic partnership between North Korea and Russia, with both countries violating the UN arms embargo and transferring arms and military equipment through sanction-evading networks. In return for North Korea’s military support, Russia has provided valuable weaponry and technology, including air defense equipment, anti-aircraft missiles, electronic warfare systems, and refined oil. Moscow has also shared data feedback on Pyongyang’s ballistic missiles, enhancing its missile guidance performance. This cooperation allows North Korea to fund its military programs and gain first-hand experience in modern warfare.

Global Concerns and Future Implications
Western governments are increasingly concerned about the long-term implications of this alliance, warning that Russia may soon share advanced space and satellite technology with North Korea. The MSMT member nations have urged North Korea to engage in meaningful diplomacy, while the US has expressed growing frustration with Russian President Vladimir Putin over the lack of a peace deal. As the conflict continues, the international community remains vigilant, anticipating further escalations and potential repercussions for global security.
