ANGEL RISING: Inside the Studio That Dared to Say No to Hollywood’s Demands and Is Now Redefining the Future of Faithful Storytelling

In an industry often accused of trading truth for trends and virtue for virality, Angel Studios has emerged as an unapologetic disruptor—championing purpose-driven stories and flipping the traditional gatekeeping system on its head.
At the Illuminate 2025 showcase held last week, Angel Studios stunned audiences with the unveiling of its most ambitious slate yet: 10 upcoming theatrical releases across 2025–2026 and 11 new streaming originals set to debut on its growing platform. But the biggest headline? One of these projects was rescued from the clutches of a major streaming giant—after pressure to sexualize teen characters pushed its creators to walk away. That decision sparked a partnership with Angel that’s already drawing national attention.
“This is just the beginning,” declared CEO Neal Harmon, as the crowd rose to its feet.
From the creators of 2023’s breakout hit Sound of Freedom and the record-breaking animated epic The King of Kings, Angel’s next chapter is already proving to be a masterstroke in counter-cultural storytelling—and a case study in audience-powered cinema.
A War for the Soul of Entertainment
Perhaps no story captured the spirit of Angel’s mission more than that of The Wayfinders—a fantasy-adventure series centered around three high schoolers transported into a mysterious realm. Originally greenlit by one of the “big three” streaming platforms, the project hit a moral impasse when executives demanded an age-up of the young leads to “allow for sexual situations.”
“They said, ‘We love it. We’re ready to go—with one change,’” recalled Jeff Harmon, co-founder of Angel Studios. “‘Your teenagers are too young. Make them 20 to 30 so we can sexualize them.’ And the filmmaker said, ‘No, thank you. We’re going to Angel.’”
That single line—”No, thank you”—may come to define the new wave of cultural resistance happening in real time at Angel Studios.

The People Are the Power
One of Angel Studios’ greatest differentiators isn’t just what it creates—but who decides what gets made.
With over 1 million paying Guild members, Angel has essentially replaced the Hollywood executive suite with a grassroots coalition of passionate backers. Through a proprietary greenlighting system, Guild members review pitches, vote on what deserves funding, and even help market the finished products.
“In Hollywood, a couple of dozen executives decide what gets made. They’re out of touch,” Jeff Harmon said. “We’re replacing the gatekeeper system with the Angel Guild.”
It’s a paradigm shift—a democratized film revolution that puts power into the hands of the audience.

The Future: Uncompromising, Unfiltered, Unafraid
In an era where too many creators feel pressured to compromise for algorithms, clicks, or shock value, Angel Studios is carving a path for something far more enduring: truth wrapped in brilliance, courage backed by creativity, and entertainment that elevates instead of erodes.
Where others bend, Angel stands.
Where others chase relevance, Angel chases resonance.
And if the Illuminate event proved anything, it’s this:
Hollywood may still control the lights. But Angel Studios is showing the world how to shine.
