Foxconn Drives into the Future: Partners with Mitsubishi Motors for Electric Vehicle Production

Foxconn, the world’s largest contract electronics manufacturer and maker of Apple’s iPhones, has signed a memorandum of understanding with Mitsubishi Motors to develop and supply electric vehicles. The partnership marks Foxconn’s first major contract in the EV industry, with the Taiwanese company designing and building cars in Taiwan for Mitsubishi. The new model is expected to hit the Australia and New Zealand markets in the second half of 2026, featuring excellent driving performance and advanced infotainment features.
The agreement is a strategic move for both companies, as Japanese automakers like Mitsubishi face growing competition from Chinese rivals in markets like Southeast Asia, South America, and Europe. Foxconn’s EV joint venture, Foxtron, will provide design and manufacturing management services, with Yulon Motor Co. handling production in Taiwan. This partnership is part of Foxconn’s broader push into the automotive industry, following its consideration of buying a stake in Nissan Motor for cooperation. The deal highlights the shifting landscape of the EV market, with established car makers seeking partnerships to stay competitive against Chinese players like BYD.
