Prince William attended the funeral of Pope Francis in Vatican City, representing the Church of England and King Charles III. The ceremony, held in St Peter’s Square, brought together an estimated 55 heads of state and 12 reigning monarchs. Prince William stood in solemn silence before the Pope’s coffin, paying tribute to the life and legacy of the head of the Roman Catholic Church. During the ceremony, Prince William briefly greeted world leaders, including US President Donald Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron. This moment echoes a precedent set by King Charles himself, who represented Queen Elizabeth II at the funeral of Pope John Paul II in 2005.
