Brad and Joanie Perry, the husband-and-wife duo known as Alabaster Grace, have unveiled a breathtaking new rendition of the Christmas classic “Mary, Did You Know?” today, December 13, 2024, under Westar Media. This release marks the lead single from their highly-anticipated debut Christmas EP, Christ Is Born, a heartfelt celebration of the birth of Jesus.

New Arrangement of the Beloved Classic, Mary, Did You Know?, is the Lead Single from Alabaster Grace's Debut Christmas EP, 'Christ Is Born'

With this unique acoustic arrangement, the Perrys bring a deeply personal and tender perspective to the cherished song, blending Joanie’s angelic vocals with Brad’s intricate and emotive guitar work. Produced by Corey Pavlosky of Pipe Dream Studios, the EP showcases their ability to fuse their creative gifts with a profound spiritual message.

‘Mary, Did You Know?’ is the perfect Christmas single to celebrate the season,” says Kathryn Livingston, Director of Client Services at Westar Media Group. “The sound is unique to Alabaster Grace, with great vocals and instrumentals. A great song for the season!”

A Marriage of Faith and Music

Brad Perry, a former NASA rocket scientist, and Joanie Perry, a dedicated educator, have built their musical ministry on a foundation of faith and artistry. Their shared love for Mark Lowry and Buddy Greene’s “Mary, Did You Know?” led to a fresh arrangement that honors the song’s timeless beauty while adding their signature touch.

“Knowing that this song is a favorite among millions of listeners, we wanted to create an arrangement that would honor the original masterpiece,” Brad shares. “One day, we started playing around with it during a music session, and the result was distinct and beautiful.”

Joanie reflects on the song’s deeper meaning: “This arrangement portrays the tender love of a mother for her child—Mary, the mother of Jesus. The musicality enhances the lyrics, capturing the awe and love Mary must have felt at this extraordinary time in her life.”

And in answer to the song’s iconic question? Joanie declares with conviction, “Yes, we believe that Mary did know. The questions in the song put the majesty of our Savior, Jesus Christ, into perspective.”

More Than a Song: Christ Is Born

“Mary, Did You Know?” is the heart of Alabaster Grace’s five-song EP, Christ Is Born, which blends traditional carols and original compositions to invite listeners into worship. Among the standout tracks is the serene “Away in a Manger/Silent Night Medley,” a sweet lullaby intertwining two beloved carols into a peaceful acoustic arrangement.

The EP also features:

  • “Alleluia, Christ is Born!” – A calming original released in 2022 that reflects the joy of Christ’s birth.
  • “Emmanuel, Prince of Peace” – A song exuding childlike wonder and trust in the Prince of Peace.
  • “Breath of Heaven (Coming Down)” – Inspired during quiet reflection, this original captures the reverence of the season.

Joanie notes that Christ Is Born was a long time coming: “Our dear friend, Julien Patterson, has been encouraging us to do a Christmas project for years. Finally, this year, we brought it to life.”

Corey Pavlosky, the EP’s producer, shares his excitement about the project: “Working with Alabaster Grace brought out the Christmas spirit in an instrumentally and genre-diverse way!”

A Message for the Season

As Alabaster Grace’s music reverberates through this Advent season, they hope listeners are drawn into the wonder and awe of Jesus’s birth. “These Spirit-inspired selections tell the Christmas story and present the joy that is this season,” says Julien Patterson, President of Alabaster Grace Ministries.
