Legends Reignited: Preachers in Disguise Return to Redefine Christian Hip Hop

100views

In an electrifying twist, the legendary Christian Hip Hop (CHH) pioneers Preachers in Disguise (P.I.D.) have made a triumphant return to the music scene, reigniting the fire they sparked over three decades ago. Widely celebrated as one of the founding pillars of holy hip hop, P.I.D. has reshaped the narrative of gospel music since their inception in 1986.

P.I.D. (Preachers in Disguise, aka Preachas) Reunite

Comprised of Fred Lynch from Dallas, TX; Jonathan Johnson (aka King Solomon Jay) from Pittsburgh, PA; and Richard Martin (aka Ace One The MC) from the Bronx, NY, P.I.D. has always been more than a band. They are ordained ministers and cultural trailblazers who carved out a sacred space for Christian expression within the hip-hop world. Their mission? To be “Holy Ghost Preachers in rapping disguise,” as immortalized in their 1988 debut album, Here We Are.

The band’s unexpected comeback was spurred by their involvement in Mic Drop: The Culture of Christian Hip Hop, a documentary chronicling the origins of CHH. “As we performed together after 35 years, the passion we had never faded. It reignited,” shares Ace One The MC. This resurgence caught the attention of Holy Culture Records, opening doors for P.I.D. to once again inspire a global audience.

Their latest singles—“Take ‘Em to Church,” “Favor,” and “The Crucible”—mark a new era for the trio. While staying true to their roots, P.I.D. seeks to bridge generational gaps within the CHH community, blending decades of wisdom with their authentic artistry.

Stream their latest tracks and witness history in motion as P.I.D. continues their mission to share the gospel through the unifying power of music. For fans old and new, the message remains clear: the legends are back, and they’re here to inspire a whole new generation.
