“As part of the singing, a church computer screen was used to share the song words. The church volunteers used their laptop to do this, and unfortunately for a few seconds, some inappropriate content was shown on the screen. Our staff immediately intervened and removed this from the screen. We are not sure if the children were aware of this and we have not spoken to them about it.”

Parents and church leaders in East Yorkshire are reeling after children attending a primary school harvest festival at Hornsea United Reformed Church were reportedly exposed to inappropriate, x-rated images. The Year 2 pupils, gathered to sing hymns celebrating the harvest season, saw their joyful moment take an alarming turn when the lyrics on the church screen were replaced by explicit content, leaving staff scrambling to intervene.

Hornsea Community Primary School has since written to parents, apologizing for the incident and explaining that the church’s volunteers had used their laptop to display the song lyrics. “For a few seconds, some inappropriate content was shown on the screen,” the school’s letter read. “Our staff immediately intervened and removed this from the screen. We are not sure if the children were aware of this and we have not spoken to them about it.”

Local authorities and the church have launched an investigation, with East Riding of Yorkshire Council expressing concern. Victoria Aitken, cabinet member for children, families, and education, confirmed that the school has suspended future church visits until reassurances are given. The church has committed to letting the investigation “take its course,” saying, “It’s in the hands of the professionals.”
