In a landmark move, the Church in Wales is making a nearly £10 million investment into four major projects aimed at revitalizing church attendance across the country. With funds drawn from the £100 million Church Growth Fund, the initiative seeks to create a new era of confident and consistent evangelism. The multi-million-pound grants will be distributed to projects in north east Wales, Swansea, and Monmouthshire, fueling the establishment of new worship communities, centers, and dynamic mission hubs designed to inspire growth in church membership.

One of the headline projects includes the creation of six new ‘Mission Hub Churches’ in the Diocese of St Asaph, where similar initiatives have already seen success since 2021. These Mission Hubs are envisioned as centers of excellence, offering a variety of worship services and activities to encourage community involvement. Additionally, more than £1 million will be invested in the region to form a team of Pioneer Missioners, who will bring mission work into rural areas, schools, pubs, and social events. Bishop of St Asaph, Rt Rev Gregory Cameron, expressed his excitement, stating, “These initiatives underline and cement our commitment to serve the people of north east and mid Wales effectively.”
Other significant investments include £2.8 million for St Mary’s Church in Swansea, transforming it into a Minster church, and over £1 million for the Diocese of Monmouth to develop new worshipping communities by building stronger connections with schools. The Archbishop of Wales, Most Rev Andrew John, described the Church Growth Fund as a “transformative step forward” in reaching communities with the Gospel. “This significant investment will enable churches to grow, innovate, and become vibrant centers of faith,” he said. With these projects, the Church in Wales aims to spark a renaissance in faith and community outreach, ushering in a new chapter of spiritual growth across the country.
