Tragedy Strikes Close to Home: Kent Vicar Grapples with Shocking Loss of Parishioners in Yacht Disaster

A devastating yacht disaster off the coast of Sicily has left a Kent vicar reeling after learning that two regular attendees of his church are among those missing. Jonathan and Judy Bloomer, from Knockholt, Kent, were on board the luxury Bayesian yacht when it capsized in a sudden and intense storm that created waterspouts. The yacht was carrying 22 people, and while 15 were rescued, the Bloomers and several others remain unaccounted for.
Rev Tim Edwards, vicar of St Katharine’s Church, expressed his shock and disbelief at the news, describing it as “impossible to take onboard.” The Bloomers were well-known members of the church community, and their disappearance has sent shockwaves through the village. The Italian Coastguard’s search efforts continue, with hopes still held that the missing individuals may have found air pockets to survive. The incident has also claimed other notable victims, including tech tycoon Mike Lynch and his 18-year-old daughter, Hannah, who are also among the missing.
