The Nigerian gospel music community is in mourning with the tragic passing of Nigerian gospel singer Ajayi Aduke Morounkola, known professionally as Aduke Gold. The devastating news was shared by her colleague, Esther Igbekele, via Facebook early Tuesday morning, with a somber tribute: “A general has fallen. ADUKE GOLD #rip.” Although the cause of her death has not been confirmed, the impact of her loss is deeply felt across the industry. Aduke Gold, who was raised in the Ogba and Badagry areas of Lagos, was the 11th child of her late parents and had carved out a significant place in gospel music since her professional debut in 2004.
Aduke Gold’s rise to prominence came with her stirring live performance at the first remembrance event for the late gospel artist Baba Are. Her 2021 hit single, “Nitori Ogo,” further established her as a prominent voice in the genre. Beyond her musical achievements, Aduke was an accomplished academic, holding a degree in history and international relations from Lagos State University and a higher degree in child psychology from the UK. Her passing marks the end of a remarkable journey for a talented artist whose contributions to gospel music and education will be remembered and cherished.
