In a powerful speech at the 7th National Catholic Social Communications Convention in Lipa City, Philippines, the Prefect of the Dicastery for Communication emphasized the Church’s crucial role in guiding technological advancements with moral clarity and human-centered values. He stressed that the focus should be on humans, not machines, highlighting the irreplaceable aspects of human connection, freedom, and love. This timely message comes as the Church navigates the complexities of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its impact on society.

The convention, organized by the Episcopal Commission on Social Communications, aims to explore the advancements and risks of AI, seeking to leverage its potential for positive impact while addressing potential negative consequences. Bishop Marcelino Antonio Maralit, Chairperson of the CBCP-ECSC, reminded Catholic communicators of the significance of AI for the Church and humanity, underscoring the need for responsible and values-driven engagement with technology. As the Church continues to adapt to the digital age, this convention marks a vital step in shaping a moral and ethical framework for technological progress.
